Zahra wins at l-Ahrax, Galea and Camilleri win at Ta’ Qali

On Sunday 17th February ASMK organised Autocross and MotoCross races at Ta’ Qali and an outdoor Trials competition at l-Ahrax quarry in Mellieha.

This Trials event was organised by ASMK and kind cooperation of All Wheel Drive Club (AWDC). All necessary permits were aplied for and granted. All these three events kept the ASMK organising team as busy as they can be.

Yet the 9th Autocross Championship event together with more MotoCross races are scheduled for next Sunday 24th February from 11.00am till about 17.00hours.

During last Sunday’s Autocross races Christian Galea on his Fiat ritmo, Patrick Cassar on his Opel Corsa and Melo Zamit on his Ford Escort won all their qualifying heats thus securing their place on the Start Lineo of the Class A Finals. Manuel Muscat on an Opel Corsa, Andrew Pisani and Matthew Borg both on Opel Nova’s also qualified for Class A.

As the Red Light turned off Christian took the lead right to thee first Right-Hander. He was close followed by Cassar and Zammit. Soon Galea and Cassar lead the rest ahead of Zammit who had pressure from Muscat for 3rd place which he won on the 4th Lap. Pisani and Borg followed Zammit to the Finish Flag.

In Class B Autocross, Malcolm Borg on his Corsa took the lead ahead of Vince Farrugia’s VW Polo and Keith Borg on Opel Nova. There were some placing changes as Keith Borg retired of a mechanical failure and Osbert Gambin drove his Honda Civic at a really Fast pace. Malcolm Borg led the rest to the finish while Vince Farrugia and Gambin placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Clayton Camilleri on his Class A KTM Motocross racer won 70 points at the end of the day andi s current leader in the MX Championship. Carmelo Borg riding ahis Suzuki 250cc bike is 2nd overall on the day and in the Championship scale. Borg is followed by Brothers Paul and Chris Muscat riding KTM’s.

Trever Muscat won his class with 75 points in the three Heats. Trever is leading the Class B (Junior Class). Brandon Muscat and Kyle Camilleri won 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Trials bikers challenged the natural obstacles in their competitions held at Mellieha Quarry of AWDC Club. This special event outsider ASMK premises was sponsored by Malta Bikes Ltd. Class A Damon Bonello gave way to Alan Zahra on a GasGas bike who performed several ‘Clean’ runs of most obstacles in course. Gary Debono on a Sherco and Robert Caruana on a GasGas placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Class B young Rowen Bonello on a Beta won his class ahead of brothers Manuel Camilleri (Beta) and Jonathan on a GasGas. This special event appealed very well to new riders in Trials sport. Two new bikers joined the ASM nursery since this event.

Practice and training sessions for MotoCross and Autocross sessions are held from 2.00pm. The Trials Nursery lessons start at 3.00pm also on Saturday afternoon. Furthur details and more races results can be seen at www.asm.com.mt
