Sirens smash San Giljan to progress to semi final

A review of Saturday's waterpolo action.

Sirens Ritter Sport won the right to meet Neptunes Emirates in the First Division Knockout semi final next Monday when they easily defeated San Giljan Giuseppe’s to seal the tie on aggregate after the first leg had ended in perfect parity.

Sirens raced to a 3-0 lead in the first session with San Giljan appearing quite misplaced across the pool. However the Saints recovered well in the second session winning 4-3 largely through the efforst of their foreigners Trajkovic and Sutic.

The third session was balanced on a knife edge but a breakwaya goal by Peter Borg made it a three goal game in the final session with Sirens holding the upper hand. And in the final session, Sirens ran riot scoring three times to register a fine 12-8 victory and progress easily to the semi final.

Marsascala meat.com.mt easily defeated a surprisingly weak Valletta Dhalia side 11-7 to take a four goal lead in the first second Divizion Knockout semi final. The team from the capital were never in the encounter albeit they exchanged play in the first session. For the Southseasiders, Ranier Scerri was on top form scoring four times while the Koralji brothers also got in on the act scoring three times between them.

Valletta were surprisingly disappointing in various stages of the game and only reduced the deficit in the final session when they scored three times for a final score of 11-7. Marsascala now take this lead into the next game of the semi final which is to be played on wednesday
