Serbia record historic win over Germany

Serbia managed to beat Germany in the second game of the Group D match causing a huge upset

Serbia 1 Germany 0

Goals: Jovanovic 38'

A 38 minute winner from Jovanovic was enough for a resolute German side to beat Germany who disappointed in their approach although they also missed a penalty which was saved by man of the match Ivanovic.

Germany pushed forward in huge numbers in the second half although Serbia also came close in counter attacks hitting the post and crossbar.

However Serbia were resolute in defence with Vidic and Ivanovic supreme although the former gave away a cheap penalty with an incredible handball.

This was the first time since 1954 that Germany lost their second game in a group match and the first time since 1986 in which it lost a group match. However pundits may wish to take note that the last time Germany were beaten 8-3 by Hungary in 1954 they went on to win the competition.
