Capello expects to be sacked if England don't beat Slovenia

England manager Fabio Capello expects to be sacked if his team fail to beat Slovenia in their final group C decider on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Mail a source quite close to the Three Lions boss has been quoted as saying that Capello is ‘under no illusions’ as to whether he will keep his job if his team fail to deliver and become the worst England performance at a World Cup finals since 1958.

After the 0-0 draw with Algeria on Friday, Capello refused to comment on his position stating, “It's too early to speak about that.

“We have to wait. We have time to answer that question. OK?”

Earlier in the month, Capello agreed to have his escape clause removed from his £6 million a year contract after meeting with Sir Dave Richards, chairman of the new Club England committee.

However the source said, “This is football and we are under no illusions.

“The new deal was set up as a show of faith on both sides but if England don't go beyond the group stage, we expect the FA to fire Fabio Capello.

“Before the World Cup, Sir Dave assured Fabio he's still wanted. As things stand, nothing has changed in essence from the agreement Fabio struck.

“We went into the World Cup with a spirit of unity, we put that in writing, and that is how we intend to continue. We must think positively.”
