Pitch invader tries to steal trophy

A pitch invader tried to steal the World Cup trophy just minutes before the final kicked off at Soccer City, Johannesburg.

The famous golden trophy was on display by the side of the pitch prior to the climactic match of the 2010 tournament when the fan ran onto the pitch and tried to grab it as part of an apparent anti-racism protest.

Security stepped in to stop the trophy being grabbed with just seconds to spare, and the fan - sporting a red two-pronged hat and wearing a dark blue t-shirt bearing the words "Salta Salta Jimmy Jump Against racism" - was swiftly removed from the stadium.

He was carried away by seven security men just as the Dutch and Spanish teams were about to walk on to the pitch for the national anthems and the start of the game.

Jimmy Jump is the nickname of a man who has run on to the pitch during several major football matches including the Euro 2004 final between Greece and Portugal.
