England meanwhile were held by Honduras in a bruising goalless draw in Miami.

At the FedExField near Washington, world champions Spain beat El Salvador 2-0 thanks to a second-half brace from veteran striker David Villa.

Villa, 32, was a controversial choice for the World Cup because of his recent poor form, but finally got back among the goals.

Cesc Fabregas missed an early penalty for Spain, who finally broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute when Villa headed in from close range after Sergio Ramos had headed a free-kick from Xabi Alonso across goal.

Villa made it 2-0 three minutes from time by turning in a centre from David Silva.

Spain will be in World Cup Group B with the Netherlands, Chile and Australia.

Argentina beat Slovenia 2-0 in La Plata with goals from Ricardo Alvarez and Lionel Messi.

Alvarez opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a long-distance shot, while Messi, who played only around half-an-hour, scored the second in the 75th minute, after being set up by Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero.

"The World Cup is hard and anything can happen, but we are going to fight to win the title," Messi said.

"We are more united than ever, because of the dream we all share."

The match was a cause for some concern for coach Alejandro Sabella, as Lucas Biglia had to leave the pitch after hurting his knee and Javier Mascherano took a blow to his ribs and also needed to be substituted.

"The only problems we had were the little physical setbacks for some players, who are already recovering. Beyond that, which is one of the most important things, everything else went as planned," Sabella said.

Cameroon signed off in front of their fans with a 1-0 defeat of minnows Moldova on a goal from promising youngster Edgar Salli.

Cameroon should have increased their lead, so dominant were they, but were kept at bay by a resolute display from Moldova keeper Stanislav Namasco.

Even so, it was a good way for Volker Finke's Cameroon team to say goodbye to their fans in Yaounde before leaving for the World Cup, where they will be in Group A with Brazil, Croatia and Mexico.

England completed their preparations with a goalless draw against fellow World Cup travellers Honduras in a match delayed by 40 minutes by an electrical thunderstorm in Miami.

England dominated but found Honduras, who had defender Brayan Beckeles sent off following a second booking after 65 minutes, physical opponents.

US referee Ricardo Salazar took the players off after 23 minutes at the Sun Life Stadium because of the threat of lightning.

Belgium beat Tunisia 1-0 in Brussels thanks to a last-minute goal from Dries Mertens, but have a worry over striker Romelu Lukaku who limped off with an ankle injury.

Tunisia's Issam Jemaa was sent off for two bookings in a match which was interrupted for about 40 minutes after torrential rain turned into giant hailstones.
