2010 World Cup final ref Howard Webb set for first 2014 game

Howard Webb, who was in charge of the 2010 World Cup final, will make his debut in the 2014 tournament when he referees Thursday's match between Colombia and Ivory Coast, world governing body FIFA said Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Englishman has appeared at several international tournaments including the last two European Championships and the last two Confederations Cups.

Colombia and Ivory Coast meet in Brasilia, having both won their opening games in Group C.

Japan's encounter with Greece in the same group Thursday in Natal will be handled by Joel Aguilar of El Salvador, who was in charge of Argentina v Bosnia-Herzegovina in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium.

Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo has been put in charge of the Group D encounter in Sao Paulo between Uruguay and England, who both lost their first match.
