The Festa Frawli (Strawberry Feast) will be held at Mgarr Square and its streets.
The Festa Frawli (Strawberry Feast) will be held at Mgarr Square and its streets.

The popular annual event will take place on Sunday 15 April from 10:00 to 17:00.

The event is the brainchild of the Mgarr Local Council, which has set out to celebrate the cultivation and produce of strawberries being characteristically linked to the fertile lands that surround the village of Mgarr and for which the Mgarr farmers are so aptly renowned, in order to emphasise the importance of the local and, hence, fresh product.

It is on record that last year eight tons of fresh strawberries were sold, besides the 800kg of strawberries that were used in processed drinks and food.

Among others, this activity will comprise the sale of fresh strawberries by the farmers themselves (below the parvis); the sale of delicacies made up of strawberries such as ice-creams, ravioli, sorbet, gateaux, waffles, pancakes etc (on the parvis itself); an enormous cake purposely made for the occasion by Maypole and Ta' Soldi; the best cup cake competition, a stand where bags, key chain and hand-made by many volunteers, will be on sale; music and dance on the purposely set-up stage; non-alcoholic drinks stand, horse-riding; a section for children's games and sale of other typical food such as timpana, wraps and tarts.

The school yard in the local primary school will be full of activities - an art competition for children, sport activities, scouting, sumo wrestling, story telling, drama, zumba and tombola.

The event caters for the whole family.

To avoid traffic congestions, Park-and-Ride facilities will be available from Ta' Qali - Millenium Stand parking area and Park Nazzjonali entrance, all along the Ghajn Tuffieha Road as well as from St Anne's Church,
Zebbiegh.

People coming from Gozo and the North of Malta can use public transport - Bus number 101 and 102. Bus number 23, 44 and 244 will cover the rest of the island.

All the proceeds from this activity will go towards the restoration of the Mgarr Parish Church.

Those interested in participating for the cake competition can request an application form by sending an email to: [email protected].
