"We are proud to host the next three editions of the Isle of MTV concert which has been labelled internationally as the largest free open air music concert in Europe," culture minister Mario de Marco said.

"The concert, through its international promotion and line-up is succeeding in attracting more foreigners to our islands, especially young people which have increased significantly since 2007."

The Malta Music Week which is organised prior to the Isle of MTV concert is also being established as a popular music event in the Mediterranean.

De Marco said that Malta had successfully hosted these music events for the past six years: "We now look forward to once again welcome to our islands music and concert lovers from all over Europe."

Antonio Canto, Senior Vice President, Be Viacom, added, "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Mediterranean islands of Malta. Isle of MTV's popularity amongst young Europeans keeps growing and the broadcast show is now also a well-established, highly anticipated episode of our World Stage franchise.  Renewing our partnership for another three years gives us the opportunity to jointly evolve the Isle of MTV franchise and attract even more young travellers to Malta."

The talent line-up and further details for Isle of MTV 2013 will be announced in the spring.
