Progressive flamenco troupe to give workshops

Puerto Flamenco company directors Francesca Grima and Andrej Vujicic will be back in Malta in August to conduct a series of intensive flamenco workshops in dance, percussion and rhythm.

After the successful premiere of their latest project the ‘Ring’ at the Malta Arts Festival, the “progressive flamenco troupe” (UK Sunday Times) is touring the Baltics with shows and masterclasses.

Over the past ten years, the company has presented their productions at prestigious venues and festivals across the globe, and imparted classes to hundreds of students in Europe, the United States and Australia. The ten-day workshop will be conducted at Alegria Academia Flamenca starting Tuesday 2 to Saturday 6 August, and Monday 8 to Friday 12 August and is organized by Ingrid Sciberras.

The dance workshops are offered for high beginners, intermediate and advanced levels and will present choreographies and techniques in Guajiras with a fan, Garrotin with sombrero and Bulerias.

The novelty this year is that the percussion workshop is designed to accompany the Bulerias dance choreography, giving the students the basic tools to integrate dance and music and learn about accompaniment.
