[VIDEO] Trailer rolls off St George's Square, crashes into opposite building

Cars, facades damaged after trailer full of Christmas decorations rolls off St George's Square.

Adds reaction by the Transport Ministry

A large trailer truck rolled off St George's Square early this morning at around 4:30am.

According to the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, at no time was permission given for entry of any vehicles into Pjazza San Gorg this morning.

Earlier reports had suggested that the trailer had been given permission to enter the square.

"The trailer in question was parked in Republic Street in connection with the installation of Christmas decorations engaged by third parties. A magisterial inquiry is presently underway," the Ministry said.

The trailer was reportedly carrying Christmas decorations.

No one was injured in the incident, but cars, benches and the facade of a building opposite the square were damaged.

Imagine the carnage that may have occurred if this incident has occurred just a little later? In any event , what caused this incident as all we will be regaled with by the police is the conclusive and informative revelation in that the "driver lost control of the vehicle ! PS Must be some size of a tree as isn't this truck a wee bit big for a Christmas decoration ?

What are those heavy vehicles doing on the newly refurbished square? No wonder we always have damaged pavements, streets and squares. Who is going to pay for this damage? Was the contractor dismantling the Labour's purposely built press conference budget marquee or were they putting up Christmas decorations? Can we have the truth?
