Woman admits to stealing from six shops in less than four hours

Clothes thief is conditionally discharged and ordered to return all items she stole during a four-hour theft spree

Rosina Agius, 57, of Gzira, was today conditionally discharged after admitting to a string of thefts from various clothes shops in Sliema.

Prosecuting inspector Jason Sultana explained how on 7 July, between 11am and 3pm, the accused stole items of clothing from BHS, Zara, Coccinelle, Morgan, Bershka and Sandro Ferrone.

The thefts were recorded on CCTV.

She was charged with aggravated theft and handling stolen property.



Agius was apprehended when a salesgirl at Zara Shopping Complex noticed the woman taking off tags from items. A security officer who works at the complex kept the woman inside a locker room, while the police were called in.

Officers conducted a search and retrieved12 items of clothing from BHS, a handbag from Coccinelle, a dress from Zara and items from Morgan and Sandro Ferrone. The accused then gave the police the missing tags that she had hidden in her bra.

Pleading guilty as charged, Rosina Agius was conditionally discharged for a year, and ordered to return all stolen items.



Magistrate Doreen Clarke presided. 

Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
