Brawl lands three men in court

Two brothers, on bail for separate offences, remanded in custody after Zebbug fight

Magistrate Ian Farrugia remanded two brothers in custody this afternoon after they pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault.

Brothers Francis and Tyson Bugeja, aged 27 and 19 respectively entered a plea of not guilty to charges of attempted grevious bodily harm to Yurgen Gauci and of being in possession of a sharp and pointed instrument during the commission of the crime.

The brawl took place in Żebbuġ on Monday evening after an argument broke out between Gauci, whose sister is in a relationship with the elder sibling, and the Bugeja brothers. Francis Bugeja was injured during the fight and had to be hospitalised for treatment. He attended today’s sitting with his arm in a sling.

Both Bugeja brothers had been out on bail related to proceedings for two separate cases at the time of the incident and as a result, the two siblings were also charged with recidivism and of breaching bail conditions.  

The court denied them bail remanded them in custody.

Police Inspector Kylie Borg prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono and Angie Muscat appeared for the men.
