Australian critically injured in Kalkara crash

A 44-year-old Australian man is in critical condition after being involved in a traffic accident in Kalkara.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening at around 8:10pm in Triq il-Missjoni Taljana, Kalkara, when the man was driving his vehicle towards Xghajra.

Initial investigations suggested that for an unknown reason, the man lost control of his Smart Roadster and crashed into a crash barrier and an electricity pole.

Eyewitnesse said that the man was thrown out of the car upon impact. 

An ambulance took the man to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified to be suffering from critical injuries to his head.

A magisterial inquiry is being held.

Police investigations are ongoing.
