An elderly gentleman who lives alone has been certified as critical after being found unconscious in his residence in an alleyway in Triq il-Karmnu, Luqa. The man was found at around 9.40 a.m, this morning, on the 16th January.

The man, 70, was discovered after friends and relatives informed local police that they were worried on account of the fact that they hadn’t seen the man for a number of days.

The police then went to the man’s residence, and received no answer to their calls, so they decided to break the door down. The door was being held shut by a broomstick, and the condition of the residence was so bad that the police called for assistance from the Department of Forensics and Civil Protection, who then used their protective tools to make their way into the residence.

The man was found lying unconscious on the second floor. The team then had to clear out the stairs, as it would have been too difficult to bring him down the staircase otherwise. The victim was then rushed to Mater Dei hospital in an ambulance, where it was certified that he is in a critical condition.

Police are carrying out investigations to discover what events led to this situation.
