Woman injured in 2006 car crash awarded €8,100 by court

An accident in Burmarrad in 2006 left a passenger with a 3% disability

A woman has been awarded €8,100 in damages after a court was told how she had suffered a 3% permanent disability following a traffic accident which took place in Burmarrad on 23 December 2006.

Judge Anthony Ellul, presiding over the first hall of the civil court, held that the accident had been caused by negligent driving on the part of John Wilson, whose Renault Clio had mounted the central strip and careened into oncoming traffic.

Charmaine Chetcuti had been a passenger in an oncoming car which collided with Wilson’s Clio.

The man behind the wheel of the Peugeot, in which Farrugia was a passenger, had also initially been charged with negligent driving. However the court held that Wilson bore sole responsibility for the accident after Farrugia’s mother, who was also in the car at the time, told the court that she had noted Wilson’s car being driven erratically immediately before the accident took place.
