Housekeeper handed suspended sentence for stealing from employer

Philippine housekeeper given two-year jail sentence for three years after admitting to stealing €550 from her employer

A 35-year-old Philippine live-in housekeeper was today handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to stealing €550 from her employer.

The Court heard how the accused, Joann Albopera, had already paid €50 and the court ordered her to repay the remaining €500 within six months.

The accused promised the court she would refund the money.

In its sentence, the Court, presided by Magistrate Josette Demicoli upheld the prosecution’s and the defence’s call for the accused to be given a suspended sentence, and gave the accused a two-year jail sentence suspended for three years.

Police Inspector Matthew Spagnol prosecuted, while Lawyer Joseph Ellis was legal aid.
