48 year-old Notary Sandro Schembri Adami from Valletta was sent to jail after the Court was informed that he did not pay back the sum of €6,500 he owed to two of his former clients, identified as Victor and Carmelo Borg.

The former MP has been handed four suspended jail terms, all on condition that he returns a total of €74,000 to 16 creditors.

The money was paid to him to register public deeds which never made their way to the Public Registry.

Schembri Adami had asked to repay the debts in instalments as from next summer, however some creditors refused his proposal and informed the courts that he had defaulted on his obligation to repay the amounts six months after the sentence was handed down.

Judge Michael Mallia who presided today's hearing ordered that Sandro Schembri Adami be immediately jailed and serve a two year sentence.
