PN in morning frenzy to erect billboards
Early in the morning, cranes and trailers were seen hoisting PN billboard bases, some of which have already been placed on the roads
At the break of dawn on Saturday morning, workers were seen working hard hoisting PN-owned billboards to set them up on Maltese roads.
According to witnesses, by 6am five cranes and five trailers were spotted entering Maghtab where the Nationalist Party keeps its billboard bases.
The cranes and trailers, owned by Emmanuel Vassallo & Sons and PN donor Zaren Vassallo, started hoisting the blue-coloured bases one by one with some having already been placed in their usual spot.
While the PL has already set up some of its billboards earlier this year, the setting up of the PN billboards confirms that the party is not wasting any more time in entering campaign mode.
Moreover, going by the last three general elections, the placing of billboards by the PN had always been a clear sign that election was round the corner.
Ironically, the move comes during a week that has seen Transport Malta filing a judicial protest calling on the PL to remove billboards that it considered as being hazardous to motorists.
A recent court ruling had allowed the PL to retain its billboards - depicting Gonzi with the his eyes closed and covering his ears - arguing that as a political party, it had the "fundamental right" to pass on its message through billboards.
But in its judicial protest, the transport regulator is insisting that the billboards should be removed because they were manifestly dangerous and illegal.
