VIDEO: Watch Edgar-Galea Curmi pull faces (when the press ask questions)
Divorce? Inquires into the leakage of documents from the Office of the President? Paah-lease... watch Edgar Galea-Curmi's face contort at the horror of non-Berlusconi questions being asked to his boss... (PS: he is the PM's head of secretariat).
The Prime Minister’s chief of staff frowned on questions made by MaltaToday during a filmed press conference yesterday afternoon. The Prime Minister was addressing the media on his return from Rome after official talks with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Edgar Galea Curmi, who heads the secretariat at Castille, was caught frowning and passing inaudible remarks on camera, when MaltaToday asked Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi a question related to Nationalist backbencher Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando’s private member’s bill on divorce.
As soon as the question was made to the Prime Minister, Edgar Galea Curmi immediately frowned, turned towards press coordinator Gordon Pisani who was standing opposite him, he gesticulated, and appeared to be passing remarks on the question.
MaltaToday was referring the Prime Minister to comments he made on Wednesday at the end of a PN parliamentary group meeting, when he indicated that the issue of divorce “should not be an issue to be decided by 65 MPs in the House, but a popular decision.” MaltaToday asked Lawrence Gonzi where if such a referendum would be held during this legislature, or after.
MaltaToday put in yet another supplementary question this time regarding the Office of the President. “Prime Minister if your office saw it fit to set up an inquiry over a conversation during a state dinner, don’t you feel there should also be an inquiry into alleged irregularities within the Office of the President?”
Lawrence Gonzi laughed off the questions and replied, “I assure you that I didn’t discuss this with Mr. Berlusconi…” and walked away, accompanied by foreign minister Tonio Borg and Home affairs minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici.
