Update 2 | 97.3% of PL delegates confirm their trust in Muscat

727 of 803 eligible votes confirm Joseph Muscat as leader of the Labour Party.

Joseph Muscat enjoys the trust of 97.3% of his party delegates to continue serving as leader of the Labour Party.

Official results saw Muscat garnering 727 votes out of the 747 delegates who submitted their votes while 13 voted against. There were four invalid votes and three abstentions.

The elected members to the national executive are Frans Agius, Mario Azzopardi, Maria Camilleri, Guza Cassar, Aaron Farrugia, Monica Farrugia, Netto Farrugia, Mario Borg Farrugia, Neville Gafa, Stanley Mifsud, Doreen Parnis Coleiro and Nikita Zammit Alamango.

Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat this morning voted in the election being held at the PL's headquarters for the national executive.

A separate vote took place to confirm Muscat as the PL leader.

Muscat was accompanied by one of his twin daughters.

A total of 803 delegates were asked to confirm Joseph Muscat as their leader, with the question being asked on the ballot sheet is whether Muscat enjoys their trust as leader.

A total of 20 candidates submitted their nomination to fill the 12 seats on the national executive.

Voting closed at 5pm and counting is now underway. Results are expected this evening.

Lydia Abela will retain her position as secretary of the executive.
