Does Enemalta’s future lie in China’s hands?
MaltaToday on Sunday brings you an exclusive interview with Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi, an analysis on the rise of China’s soft power and an editorial discussing the Chinese MOU.
In an exclusive interview with MaltaToday, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi is clear that the Chinese investment is exactly what Enemalta needs for its turnaround.
An albatross around Malta's neck, Enemalta has become a byword for liability.
On Wednesday, the Maltese government signed a memorandum of understanding with China Power Investments Corporation that is set to include a cash injection to the ailing state entity.
"This agreement is being struck at the right time with the right partners," Mizzi tells MaltaToday, adding the MOU can also serve to bring some peace of mind to Enemalta's workers that their place of work is secure.
He also confirms that the memorandum of understanding will be tabled in parliament.
The Sunday paper also carries an analysis by MaltaToday's journalist James Debono on the rise of China's soft power and its ambitions to tap into Europe's renewable energy market.
