The PN newspaper reports that in recent days Ryan Schembri, the fugitive former co-owner of More supermarkets, has been in telephone contact with a “particular person” and reassured that he and his family are safe. The report adds that in the same conversation Schembri, who owes more than €40 million to creditors, revealed his whereabouts.

A criminal complaint has been filed against Fr Mark Montebello who is being accused of having tried to bribe a witness in the case involving alleged sexual abuse by a Dominican friar Charles Fenech. Although Montebello is denying any wrongdoing, Edgar Bonnici Cachia is claiming that the priest informed him about a six-figure offer.

Nine independent schools are finding it hard to make ends meet as they are owed hundreds of thousands of euros after the government failed to honour an agreement to cover the salaries of learning support assistants in recent months. The schools are paying the money themselves. In some cases, the last payment was made in January and since then a bill of some €600,000 has accumulated.

The MEPA case-officer report on the mega-project at Hondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo is expected to recommend a refusal. The project includes a yacht marina, hotel and apartments in the idyllic bay.
