About 500 finches, part of a haul of 700 intercepted on the catamaran voyage from Sicily to Malta, have died in quarantine. Hawfinches, goldfinches, linnets and serins were found when a man tried to smuggle them in to Malta, where they were conservatively estimated to be worth €32,000. The remaining birds will be freed.

Three Vietnamese workers in the Leisure Clothing company have revealed shocking details of their employment. They claim to have worked 14-hour shifts and had their pay withheld. They have begun procedures to claim an estimated €50,000 in unpaid wages.

The paving in Pjazza San Gorg in Rabat, Gozo, will need to be replaced, five years after it was installed, as it has become stained over time. The initial project was meant to include a fountain, which to date has not been constructed. The replacement of the paving stones will cost an estimated €500,000.
