The poor and unemployed should have free access to child care according to Caritas, who reacted to statistics that show that a quarter of the Maltese population is at risk of poverty. Caritas, a Church NGO dedicated to eradicating poverty, said that allowing children exposure to different environments would help to break the cycle of benefit dependancy.

Home affairs minister Carmelo Abela has not come through on a promise he made after being appointed to the post back in December. He said that he would look into the police corps' secret Addendum but has yet to act.
