A constitutional court has deemed a statement given by Anthony Taliana, after an incident which cost a cyclist his life in 2009, was not admissable in court because he was at the time a vulnerable person and had his humn rights breached as he was not allowed the opportunity to consult a lawyer.

Architect Richard England said that Renzo Piano, who designed Valletta's new entrance, was hurt and saddened by news that the market is to be moved close to the parliament building. England appealed to the government to carry out Piano's plans as they were originally designed.

Head of the Gozo branch of the civil protection services Peter Mercieca is under intenal investigation for abusing his power between December 2008 and March 2009. He is accused of signing in on behalf of an employee who was on a personal holiday at the time, costing thousands in public funds.

Up to 300 migrants are lost, feared dead, after attempts to reach mainland Europe in four boats ended in tragedy. The UNHCR warned that more such tragedies lie ahead, unless Europe does more to help migrants in need, now that the Mare Nostrum operation has been replaced by the smaller, underfunded Triton operation.
