In the Press: Libya, Egypt call on UN to lift arms embargo on Libya

Libya and Egypt have called on the UN security council to lift an arms embargo on Libya, which could help arm its military and fight IS forces in the region. The request came after a somewhat more forthcoming call from Egypt earlier this week for a UN mandate for military action in the increasingly unstable region.

Nadur residents remain baffled by the actions of two Labour councillors, who abstained in a vote during a dicussion on the construction of a wall that would effectively block off a popular belveder over the Mgarr harbour. Residents have complained that the council is protecting the interests of one of Gozo minister Anton Refalo's canvassers instead of the community's.

The bishop of Benghazi Silvestro Magro will be in Malta in the coming days. He has remained in Benghazi throughout the unrest in Libya, turning down requests from the Maltese government to return to Malta.

The director of the University's Labour Studies department has suggested an after-school scheme for children - focusing on non-academic subjects like sport, art and music - to help close the gender gap in the employment sector. Malta currently ranks the lowest in the EU for its proportion of women in employment at 46.9%.
