New Frontex operations centre overseeing Malta opens in Greece

A new operation centre in Piraeus, Greece, set up by Frontex, the European Union’s external border-monitoring agency, was opened yesterday.

The new regional centre was to oversee border surveillance in Malta as well as Greece, Italy and Cyprus.

Frontex Director Ilkka Laitinen, who attended the inauguration ceremony for the centre, was quoted as saying that the vast majority, 90%, of illegal immigrants who were caught attempting to enter the EU were stopped at Greek borders.

Good job. Now Greece can lump the illegal immigrants since they were so naive.
