Public transport to start earlier on voting day

Several public transport routes will commence earlier than usual on Saturday so as to facilitate the arrival of assistant electoral commissioners at their polling stations at 6am

Public transport on Saturday, 11 April will start earlier than usual so as to facilitate the punctual arrival of assistant electoral commissioners at their assigned polling stations at 6:00 am on polling day. 

For all the under listed scheduled routes, buses shall depart from out-stations at 5.00 am. The same routes depart from Valletta at 5.30 am.

The routes are:  1, 2, 3, 12, 21, 22, 24, 31, 32, 33, 36, 38, 41, 42, 44, 45, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 61, 62, 63, 71, 72, 73, 82, 83, 84, 85, 91, 92, 93, 94, 122 and X5.

Assistant electoral commissioners will not be required to pay a fare, provided that they show the bus drivers their identification tags issued by the Electoral Commission. The same routes depart from Valletta at 5.30 am.  

After the assistant electoral commissioners deposit the ballot boxes and other election material at the Counting Hall in Naxxar, they will find, after 10.00 pm, a minibus shuttle service to all localities in Malta, which shall be also without payment.

The Electoral Commission would also like to remind the public that on Saturday, 11th April 2015, the voting hours for the National Referendum and Local Council Elections are between 7.00 am and 10.00 pm without interruption.

Ten voters who are able to vote without assistance are to enter into the polling booth for every voter who needs assistance to vote from the Assistant Electoral Commissioners.

The Electoral Commission also notified that every person who impedes or prevents the free exercise of a voter’s right to vote in these elections shall be guilty of an offence according to the law.
