18% feel that their job is under threat

The Maltese are the fourth least likely among the EU member states to feel that that their job security is currently under threat, a Euro Barometer survey published on Monday revealed.

Respondents from Austria, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and Malta feel the most secure in their jobs, with less than one in five agreeing that their “job security is under threat’.

The feeling of insecurity is highest among Lithuanians, 58% of whom feel their job is not safe followed by crisis hit Greece where 41% feel insecure in their job.

On average 25% of Europeans compared to 18% of Maltese felt their job under threat.

The Cypriots, Danish and Maltese respondents are also the most well matched in terms of their skills and employment, with nine out of ten respondents agreeing that their current job adequately reflects their education and training. The

French are the least well matched, with only 65% agreeing their education and training are reflected in their current job.

The survey also shows that 17% of the Maltese do not feel they receive the respect and recognition they deserve at work compared to an EU average of 19%.

According to the survey the most recognized and respected at work are the Cypriots, the Swedes and the Danes, while Romanians and Hungarians feel the least respected and recognised.
