The proposed European Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base could threaten Malta's sovereignity over its own fiscal affairs, KPMG partner Juanita Bencini said yesterday.

Experts have said that they had warned the OPM about the risk of setting up a tent near Hagar Qim for the 2015 CHOGM due to the exposed nature of the site and the unpredictable winter weather. The OPM however went ahead with the plan, leading to an estimated €100,000 going to waste when the dinner was held elsewhere.

De Le Rue, a currency printing company, is set to dismiss some 300 employees over the course of the next two years. The government said it was committed to finding laid off employees alternative jobs.

A group of students have joined forces to push for a tunnel link between Malta and Gozo. The electorate, the group said, had already voted in favour of the tunnel, so a referendum on the issue is not needed.
