Another 24 van operators have joined the government’s planned scheme to offer free school transport to all students in Malta.

The government announced on Saturday that had reached an agreement with 18 transport operators to extend the existing free transport service to church and independent schools.

It was announced that, contrary to what was originally being envisaged, the government would be paying operators directly and would not be refunding parents for van fees.

The ministry said that an updated list of operators would be kept at www.schooltrasnsport.edu.mt.

Moreover, the ministry also said that other operators could also register there interest in the scheme through the website
