A 30-year-old man from Hamrun sustained serious injuries after the boatyard he was working in went up in flames on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened in Hal Farrug and thick black smoke enveloped the area.

The man was working on a boat at the time of the incident. Two other men on site at the time escaped without injuries.

 

The fire is understood to have destroyed almost 30 boats, with damages running into thousands of euros.

 

Firefighters were on site to put out the flames. Two dogs on the premises were also rescued.

 

 

A magisterial inquiry is underway and the police are investigating.
