Mixed reviews on Syrian conflict
Chief of Arab League monitors in Syria says situation is not unsettling but activists doubt choice of monitor’s leader.
Following an initial visit to Homs, the central location for protests in Syria, Arab League monitors determined that nothing unsettling was observed.
Observers sent to Syria by the Arab League will be confirming whether the country’s militia is ending the violent attack on protesters.
Military forces killed six people in Homs on Tuesday along with nine others across the country coinciding with the brief tour of the monitors on the same day.
The monitors said that a longer investigation would be required but while some areas looked worse for ware there was nothing of concern and seemed “reassuring”.
However, activists said they were concerned that Sudanese general Mustafa Dabi chosen to lead the observer mission would mean that monitors would unlikely recommend strong action against the Syrian president.
Activists said that this was due to Sudan’s own rebellion toward a war crimes tribunal.
