At least 23 people were killed and more than 50 injured, some critically, after a car bomb exploded near a bus terminal in the Khyber tribal region in north-west Pakistan.

According to police investigations, the bomb had been planted in a car in the busy market area of Jamrud and was detonated remotely.

Several other vehicles were also damaged by the blast.

The Khyber tribal region is known for previous deadly attacks launched by militants.

No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack although several groups fighting the government are active in the area.
