Video| 64 killed as multi-storey building collapses in New Delhi

At least 64 people were killed when a multi-storey building in New Delhi collapsed.

The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers are said to be making slow progress through the rubble.

Investigators believe the five-storey building had been weakened by recent flooding brought on by the monsoon rain. The building lies next to the Yamuna river which burst its banks in September and early October.

Another possible cause is being attributed to the construction of a sixth floor to the five-storey building.

“There are many victims still trapped below the concrete rubble and iron rods. Our challenge is to evacuate them alive,” a police spokesman said.

Throughout the night, rescuers worked hard to pull out severely injured people and corpses. The victims include several children.
