Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba speaks on his request to the European Commission to investigate de-facto monopolies in the distribution sector, which he says are contributing to higher inflation in food prices.

“The commission must ensure that the European market in Malta is functioning in the same way it works in other states like Germany, France and Portugal,” he said.

He said Malta must not accept that because it is a small country, that the free market is dominated by a handful of importers.
