Malta Cricket weekend review

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C had a busy schedule. On Saturday the team was involved in a three team mini one day tournament.

Three twenty over games were played. The first was against new comers Elmdon C.C. The second game was between the two touring teams and the third was against Washington C.C who were on their fourth tour to Malta.
Elmdon C.C won the toss of the first game and elected to bowl. Malcolm Crabbe opened the batting and stop scored with fifty nine runs including seven fours and a six. Derek Ali made thirty three runs not out including four fours and a six. Tim Wheeler was the only other batsmen to make it into double figures with fifteen runs. The home side totalled 131 runs of their allotted overs.
In reply Elmdon were bowled out for 84 runs. Adam Mellick top scored with fourteen runs while D.Turner and B.Campbell scored thirteen runs each. For Marsa Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with four. The Marsa team win the first game in the mini tournament and their only game against Elmdon C.C.
The second game between the visiting teams ended in a tie of 132 runs each. A classic twenty over game.
The third game of the day Washington C.C won the toss and elected to bat. Ashley Cruickshank top scored with forty one runs. Aff Nasseen made twenty five runs, Glenn Matthews twenty two runs and Shawn Hill nineteen runs. They totalled 123 runs in their allotted overs. Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with two. In reply the home side made the runs with four balls to spare. Javed Shah top scored with forty four runs. Anthony Roberts and Justin Brooke (who saw the home side to victory) both made twenty runs each. For Washington Peter Kloss was the main wicket taker with two. The Marsa team win the game and the mini tournament.

On Sunday the Marsa team played a forty over game against Washington C.C.
Frank Spiteri opened the batting and top scored with sixty four runs, Ronnie Sacco made sixty three runs, Sarfraz Ali twenty six runs and Bikram Arora made twenty four runs. The home side made 229 runs from their allotted overs. Ian Relf was the main wicket taker with three for the visitors. A great run chase by the visitors left them thirty runs short of their target. The chase was lead by their captain Shawn Hill who scored sixty runs. Lee Fogarty scored forty three runs and Glenn Matthews made twenty six runs as the main run scorers. Joy Ghoseroy was the main wicket taker with three while Andy Naudi, Bikram Arora, Gordon Hewitt and Sarfraz Ali all took a wicket each. Marsa win the game and now have a two game advantage over Washington who were three games each previous to the tour.

Next Saturday the final game of the second division will be played between Betfair C.C and Gozo C.C. A win for Betfair will give them the league, a loss could mean Mellieha C.C win the league.
