The prestigious international sporting event is being held across four continents over two years, with the final race for the year happening this weekend in San Francisco.

The America's Cup is sailing's most prized international trophy. The events attract the world's best sailors on the fastest boats in a pure pursuit of excellence. The cup goes back nearly 160 years, pre-dating the modern Olympics.

As the security consultants for the America's Cup World Series, Khiron Security's Event Safety Management personnel deploy as part of the America's Cup Race Management (ACRM) team to venues across the world.

The Maltese security team is currently in San Francisco for the last event of the year running until October 7 before the races take a break over the winter. The races will resume in April next year in Venice.

Khiron Security founder and Managing Director, John Muscat, welcomed the challenge: "We are proud to be the company chosen from around the world to provide security and risk management services to such a prestigious event."

The company has already successfully overseen the first six of the World Series races held in Cascais (Portugal), Plymouth (UK), San Diego (USA), Naples and Venice (Italy) and Newport (USA) before the ongoing event in San Francisco.

"The success of the first events is very encouraging and we look forward to the challenges ahead," Muscat said.

"Our risk management process defines the safety and security resources needed for each event. This allows us to draw up the event security plan, which details the safety and security measures to be implemented in order to mitigate risks to participating teams, staff and audiences, as well as  organisational assets. Our personnel then work closely with national private and public agencies for the implementation of the plan."

The 2011 - 2013 World Series consists of regattas with teams competing in the new high-tech carbon fibre AC45 catamarans designed by Oracle Racing. The catamarans are capable of speeds of up to 30 knots yet nimble enough to tackle the tactical racecourses set up by the ACRM.

Immediately following the end of the World Series in July 2013, the Challenger of Record will be decided through the Louis Vuitton Cup, which itself paves the way for the America's Cup finals in San Francisco in September 2013.

The America's Cup World Series is the most recent addition to Khiron Security's international portfolio. The company commands an impressive track record providing security services across more than 15 countries.  The company is also currently providing security services to the 5 5 summit being held in Malta hosting the leaders of EU member states and northern African countries.

Among other international ventures, Khiron Security has overseen the safety and security management of the Union Internationale Motonautique's (UIM) Powerboat Endurance Class World Championship for five years, managing safety for over 20 international race events.

In Malta, Khiron Security has provided guarding services during the production of over 50 commercials, documentaries and films including Troy, The Da Vinci Code, Munich and World War Z, as well as delivering close protection services to numerous celebrities visiting the Islands such as Bill Gates, Madonna, Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg, Elton John, Sting, Joseph Calleja and Roger Waters, among others.
