MFSA warns customers against unlicensed financial services company

The company Wire Prepay indicates an incomplete physical address in Malta and a Maltese telephone number as a means of contact.

The Malta Financial Services Authority has become aware of an entity operating under the name Wire Prepay, which is known to have an internet presence at http://www.wireprepay.com/.

This entity purports to be a ‘financial company’ authorised to offer prepaid cards, credit cards and debit cards, as well as payment processing services and money transfers. The website http://www.wireprepay.com/ indicates an incomplete physical address in Malta and a Maltese telephone number as a means of contact.

The MFSA wishes to alert the public, in Malta and abroad, that the above-mentioned entity is not a company registered in Malta nor is it an entity licenced or otherwise authorised by the MFSA to provide any type of financial service.

The MFSA would like to remind consumers of financial services not to enter into any financial services transaction unless they have ascertained that the entity with whom the transaction is being made is authorised to provide such services by the MFSA or another reputable financial services regulator.

A list of entities licensed by the MFSA is available from the MFSA and can be viewed on the official website of the MFSA at http://www.mfsa.com.mt/pages/licenceholders.aspx.
