People flying home for Christmas or spending the festive period abroad will be treated to free mulled wine and mince pies at the airport.

Airport staff will dress up as elves and offer a helping hand with luggage, while souvenir baubles will be distributed to travellers, and the terminal will be decorated with Christmas attire.

Travellers who are keen on enjoying a last-minute splurge before boarding can also get their presents wrapped for free at the gift-wrapping station found at Departures.

“We did our utmost to spread the Christmas cheer throughout the airport, and passengers can expect the infectious holiday spirit to rub off on them,” the MIA said in a statement.

The airport forecasts that around 114,000 travellers will pass through the terminal between 21 December and 2 January, with the busiest days projected to be the 23 and 30 of December.
