A 25-year-old Libyan national has been handed a suspended sentence for stabbing and slightly injuring a man whom he allegedly caught with his wife.

Mohamed Mokhatr Mohaed Jamhur, who resides in Valletta, admitted to causing the injuries during an argument he had with another Libyan man, Nader Abdulaziz Elgerian, at around 4:15pm yesterday, at Msida.

The accused also pleaded guilty to attempted grievous bodily harm and admitted to carrying a knife in public without the necessary permissions.

The argument is understood to have broken out after the accused allegedly caught his wife with the victim. Elgerian was stabbed once in the right shoulder. The knife has not been recovered.

The man was found guilty on his own admission and handed an 18-month sentence, suspended for three years. He was also fined €164.

A protection order was issued in favour of the victim.

Inspectors Robert Vella and Jonathan Ransley prosecuted.
