A man from Syria has been jailed for a year after he pleaded guilty to attacking a co-national with a hammer.

Mohammad Al Hussein, 29, admitted to attacking Yasan Harmoush with the tool on 28 January in Paola. Harmoush suffered head injuries and a dislocated finger in the attack

Al Hussein also admitted to charges of causing voluntary damage to a car parked in the street where the attack took place.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja, after taking into consideration the early guilty plea and lack of prior convictions, sentenced Al Hussein to 12 months.
