A man from Msida is being held in custody awaiting his sentence after he admitted earlier today to having physically attacked his estranged partner.

25-year-old Seajay Cardona appeared before magistrate Grazio Mercieca this morning, accused of slightly injuring the woman – understood to be the mother of his child – as well as insulting and threatening her on Sunday night.

He was also charged with breaching bail conditions which he had been placed under last December. Those conditions included not approaching the same woman he is accused of injuring.

Inspector Robert Vella, prosecuting, said the man was a repeat offender with a number of past convictions. The court was asked to revoke his bail and confiscate the €3,000 bail deposit and €20,000 personal guarantee.

Cardona pleaded guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody. The magistrate announced that Cardona's sentence would be delivered in September.

Lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha were defence counsel.
