Transport Minister Joe Mizzi has announced plans for several embellishment projects in Valletta.

Addressing the media in Ordinance Street this morning, Mizzi outlined plans to restore the Triton and Wignacourt fountains, the Wignacourt tower and also announced the completion of restoration works on the House of Catalunya.

The bronze statues of Dun Mikiel Xerri, Gorg Borg Olivier, Paul Boffa, Manwel Dimech, Nerik Mizzi and Pope Pius V have also been painstakingly restored in recent months, said the minister.

Works repairing damaged paving at Ordinance Street had been completed in the past days, in preparation for the relocation of the Valletta open air market to this street. Mizzi explained that the paving works had been carried out at a cost of €350,000 and also involved the installation of new water mains and electricity cables.

Last July the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure had ordered a contractor to re-lay the paving in Ordinance Street at his own expense after it was noted that the works had not been carried out to the specified standards.
