In the Press: University students call for return of old bus routes

University students are up in arms over the revamped bus routes, which came into effect at the end of last month. Routes to University have become lengthier, reduced in frequency or have been removed altogether. A petition was set up, calling for the return of the old routes.

Trials by jury cost the taxpayer some €3,000 a day and the last three took 15 to 19 days, sources close to the court administration have said, while the average is between 10 and 14 days. Lawyers have defended the judge presiding over last year's trials by jury, saying that it was important that jurors were not mentally strained by long hours when trying to reach a verdict.

The PN launched its second General Convention yesterday, which would focus on environmental issues, among others, over three days. Entitled 'IdeaAmbjent - Kwalita ta' Hajja Ahjar', the convention will include input by experts and the general public.

A journalist was on the receiving end of a xenophobic letter this week, which targeted him and his family - including his two adoptive children, hailing from Ethiopia. The anonymous letter spewed hateful language, seemingly holding the recipient responsible by association for the asaults on revellers on New Year's Eve in a number of German cities.

A report by the Ombudsman called for transparency to be the rule, not the exception, when any branch of public administration makes decisions. This is necessary because the government must answer to Parliament and the electorate, who empowers it.
