Muscat in phone call with US vice-president elect Mike Pence

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has telephone converstion with US Vice-President Mike Pence, discussion focuses on bilateral relations, Libya, and Malta's upcoming Presidency of the EU

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had a telephone conversation with US Vice-President elect Mike Pence on Friday night, the government has said.

In a brief statement, the government said that the two discussed bilateral relations between Malta and the United States, the upcoming Maltese Presidency of the European Union and the situation in Libya.

Muscat conveyed his best wished to Pence, as well as to President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump and Pence are set to take up the roles of President and Vice-President on 20 January, succeeding Barack Obama and Joe Biden. This follows Trump’s stunning electoral victory on 8 November, when he won the electoral college with 306 votes to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s 232.
