Atlas launches 2014 calendar

Atlas Insurance has launched its seventh calendar showcasing Maltese artists, this year choosing to feature the work of Andrew Diacono.

Diacono needs no introduction to the Maltese art loving public and Atlas Insurance is proud to present some of the recent works by this artist, as part of its commitment to showcase the variety and quality of the Maltese art scene.

Over the years, Atlas has sought to choose different artists which have made their mark in the Maltese art scene in different areas, ranging from installations to sculpture, ceramics to watercolour and photography. In fact, Atlas has already published calendars featuring varied works by artists such as Gabriel Caruana, Josette Caruana, Ebba von Fersen Balzan, James Vella Clark, Austin Camilleri and Patrick Fenech.

Son of the late Victor Diacono, also an artist and fine art sculptor, Andrew drew influences from his father and at a very young age showed great inclination to follow in his father's footsteps. During his late teens and early twenties, Andrew already commanded attention from the art community with his free-form sculptures made from clay and mixed media.

Since then, Andrew has produced some fascinating pieces in clay, bronze and mixed media. Midway through his career Diacono also took to painting, producing iconic pictures such as the 'Madonna and Child' and 'Bathers at Exiles Beach' series. He has exhibited widely in private galleries both locally and internationally. Diacono's first public artwork, 'The Three Graces' can be seen at Mgarr in Gozo.

The Atlas Art calendar underlines the Group's commitment to increase the appreciation of art and culture in Malta as part of our national heritage.
