Maltese filmmakers in professional industry course

The Malta Film Commission and the Culture and Audiovisual Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister, are organising a set of courses throughout 2011 for Maltese audiovisual industry professionals.

The training is specifically tailored to the immediate requirements of the Maltese audiovisual sector and is intended to strengthen the skills of audiovisual professionals in order to improve the quality and potential of Maltese audiovisual works. Over thirsty Maltese professionals have benefited from the training so far.

This initiative includes a mentoring programme overseen by international industry experts Lorianne Hall and Richard Holmes. Lorianne Hall has over 15 years experience working in the European and Hollywood entertainment business. She is currently an Acquisitions Executive for Scanbox Entertainment.

Richard Holmes is the founder of the trade body The New Producer’s Alliance, serving a year as its Co-Chairman. For three years he was the Vice-Chairman for Film at PACT, the UK’s Producers Alliance for Cinema and TV.

The program started in March with renowned British scriptwriter Gary Young. He is best known for writing Harry Brown starring Michael Caine. Clova McCallum from ITV was the second tutor of the program leading the TV series writing and development course.

The next seminar will focus on documentary filmmaking. Martina Durac and Vanessa Gildea from Loopline Film (Ireland) will be the tutors for the program on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May. They will be conducting the Documentary Foundation Course.
