Ira Losco to play Rod Stewart concert after Beer Festival voice-scare

Ira Losco suffered an allergic reaction at last Saturday’s performance at the Beer festival, caused by dust and pollen from nearby trees, cutting the concert short as it left her without a voice.

The 29 year-old local star, with three number one albums under her belt, is due to kick-start tonight’s concert of Rod Stewart. She told MaltaToday: “It’s not something I could control; some singers might get hoarse and others may be able to smoke a whole packet of cigarettes before a concert but my voice is sensitive to dust and pollen.”

The performer’s decision to stop the gig was based on “professional” grounds, because “there was no point in continuing when I didn’t have a voice. As a professional I felt it was best that I stopped.”

When asked about her state of health for tonight's concert of British singer-song-writer Rod Stewart, 65, Ira Losco said “In my mind there is no fear of performing, just a fear of this happening again, although I should hope I’m not allergic to the granaries!”

Dr Alec Lapira, Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist and doctor to Ira as well as Joseph Calleja, gave her the all-clear for tonight’s concert.
